Both the Atomium in Brussels and the Smurfs are celebrating their 60th birthday in 2018 - and that presented a great opportunity to do something eye-catching with the internationally known Belgian icon. The Atomium is ‘going blue’, thanks to a huge Smurf head applied onto one of its spheres.
Three companies have been working together to complete the “Smurf Experience”: Cecoforma (an agency specializing in event communication), Dynagraph (specialising in lettering and digital printing), and Dizziness (experts in working at height).
Positioned 102 meters above the ground, the enormous Smurf’s head now on the 18m diameter sphere will be entertaining visitors until the end of the year.
For this highly challenging work, Dynagraph & Dizziness used a team of 4 experienced climbers. In three days, they were able to apply an image that is 9m wide and 14.5m high - all using Mactac digital printing and signage films to amazing effect.
